An Alaska Airlines plane hit a bear on the runway during landing, and on that occasion, the animal was killed while the aircraft was damaged, the administration of Yakutat Airport in southeast Alaska announced.

It was a Boeing 737-700 plane that killed a bear, along with a two-year-old cub, which was unharmed, said the spokesman of the Department for Transport and Public Facilities, Sam Dapcevic.

Airport service workers cleared the runway about ten minutes before the plane was supposed to land, Dapcevic added, saying that the plane landed in the dark, and the crew on the plane followed all regular procedures.

"The nose of the plane missed the bears, but the captain felt a blow on the left side, when the bears passed under the plane," the Alaska Airlines said in a statement.
