WK 0 Convergence, Globalization, Postmodernity, Simulation
Convergence – represents the merging of distinct technologies, industries, or devices into a unified whole, so that they would share a common, integrated platform. This helps us share and receive news and information much faster. Convergence is actually a pretty recent phenomenon that appeared in the early 1980s.
Globalization – worldwide exchange of social, political and economic ideas without any limitations or boundaries. It is happening between once separated local markets or different cultures.
Postmodernity – the historical epoch that began to emerge in the 1960s as the economic mode of production. This is the moment when the things have changed drastically when it comes to market and production and when western societies started shifting their focus from old world orders in favor of providing more flexible, customizable products
Simulation – denotes the unrealistic, perfect image of our society, representing a false reality. These fake standards and images can be dangerous for people, as they will try to imitate this and try to make their lives “like they should be”, and when they fail it brings them stress and discomfort. These images can be seen in concepts such as family and love life, beauty standards, violence and so on.
