Understanding Key Terms
Cultural superstrute is a social consciousness found in Marxism, encoded in istitutions such as religion, politics, gevernment and etc. It reflects and mirrors the material conditions of society, or the economic base.
Multinational media conglomerates follow certain strategies as to maximize profit. Synergy marks one of those. It onvolves expoliting the development, production and distribution of media for bigger profit.
Spectacle is another one of media stratgies of maximizing profit. It focuses on using celebrities and their fame to gain profit, relaying on shockng, scandalous and sensational grips of audience's attention.
Since media are being used as a way to gain profit, there mostly isn't any objectivity - the reporting of facts in an impartial manner. Reporting was relatvely trusted and respected in 20th century, but unfortuneately there is no unbiased media today.
Information bias is any deaviation from the truth in the process of collecton and handiling of informtions in media. Major types of information baises: personalization, dramatization, fragmentation and authority-disorder.
Political bias refers to use of media for the imposition of political ideas on to the general public. Mostly as to appeal to a certain group of audience, hoping ot gain a bigger profit that way.
