WEEK ZERO- UNDERSTANDING KEY TERMS


CONVERGENCE- This term is used to describe the tendency of all types of media to to share a common platform through which they can spread. This became popularized during the late industrial revolution, and especially in times of modernity with the inventions of the internet and various new media. For example nowadays you can do basically anything in terms of media via your mobile phone.

GLOBALIZATION-  This is the tendency of companies to spread their influence across as much of the world as possible. This is extremely prevalent in media companies, who always have the intent of establishing networks through as many countries as possible in order to monopolize the media market.

POSTMODERNITY-  The are after modernity. Signified by the end of the industrial revolution and beginning of the technological revolution which does not still have a name. It is characterized by the global increase of welfare, standards of living and GDP.

SIMULATION- A replica of something real. This can have many showings, the most prominent these days being the use of virtual reality, through various types of VR goggles. It is a showing of the world as designed by developers, a fully immersive experience.
