Sings of life in the U.S.A. WK5

When asked a question : "Who am I?", I personally have no clue, and that is okay, since I am still very young. But if I absolutely had to describe myself in five words I would say that I'm: lazy, a procrastinator, kind, intelligent(kind of) and funny.

In his essay Kevin Jennings describes  his journey in life and how he coped with situations he was in. Jennings grew up in Illinoisan surrounded with racist, misogynistic and narrow-minded people. His uncle and his brothers joined KKK, and his father degraded African-Americans, Jews, Homosexuals, etc. All Jennings wanted his whole life up until that point is to live an " American dream", which he could only do if he followed a certain norm that was set by a heterosexual, christian white man. Since he thought that being from the south was a bad thing Jennings tried to speak without his accent so nobody would know his roots. In college he tried to hook-up with as many girls he could in process of proving to the society that he is not gay. After falling in love with a college from his university he realized that he cannot fulfill his "American dream", because he was no longer a straight white man, and even tried taking his own life at one point. He later realized that everything he was though was wrong, and he lost himself, and his family in that journey to his goal. He later became a rights activist for women, people of color and people with a different sexuality.

  1. Try elaborating what you mean when you describe something as "a bad thing" rather than just labeling it "bad". Here it could be disadvantageous or burdening in a different context from the one of the South. Regarding spelling: Colleague, rather than college, also Christian (capital C). The sentence before last needs rewriting.
